TANGIER'S GREAT SPOTS

Les coins sympas de Tanger

Les Passagers de Tanger
When we are in Tangier we never fail to have a meal or two at Les Passagers de Tanger, (my previous post.)It is always spectacular there and this time again, it did not disappoint. Francois-Xavier, the owner/chef, had just bought 37 Kgs of cepes, those delicious mushrooms so sought after in French cuisine.

We marveled at the sheer quantity and Francois Xavier suggested we stay for a meal of Cepes. We readily accepted. We were served a Carpaccio de cepes - very thinly sliced mushrooms with lemon juice, olive oil, salt, pepper and a mountain of shaved Parmesan cheese.
This divine dish was followed by another just as delicious: a poelee de cepes sauted with garlic and garnished with a generous amount of parsley.
UN DELICE!

Le Salon Bleu
As we walked to a friend's house, we discovered Le Salon Bleu, a wonderful cafe/teashop/restaurant newly opened in a small house perched on the walls of the Kasbah. We had visited it one day as it was for sale so we were very surprised to find that it could fit a cafe restaurant and impressed that it had been so beautifully decorated in shades of bright Klein blue.
One wall of the indoor cafe was fitted with cubbies filled with silk spools like the ones in the shops of the medina, the subject of this post.

Chez Jerome
We arrived at our friend's house - we had never been- and there we found the most charming house of Tangier! with a wall in common with the Salon Bleu as it turns out.
Every corner was a delight with tall pots full of flowering bushes,
a wonderful pergola holding up  huge tree branches casting welcome shade on the diminutive lower terasse,
From the top terrasse, great views of the bay,
and of the Place de la Kasbah.
It is always so much fun to discover new places and to delight in the exquisite decor sprinkled all over Tangier. On each trip a little present for our eyes as it were.

au revoir.

NAVY BLUE

LE BLEU MARINE

I LOVE navy blue.
I just came back from Paris and noticed that on the street and in the shops, everywhere, navy blue was worn or displayed. (A styliste friend of mine had told us in June that navy was going to be THE shade for fall and winter- a lot of her summer cotton and linen shirts and pants were already in that color- I was delighted to hear that as I have been wearing navy blue scarves, short boots and gloves for a while.) I remember when navy was found exclusively in spring collections.
This time navy came in an array of shades, some more grayish blue, others leaning towards purple or black, all a great soft hue becoming on everyone, blondes, brunettes and red heads alike.
It was mixed with black often, with brown also and at times with animal prints which gives navy blue a hint of daring and a slight ethnicity.

The navy blue accessories
all great worn with black or brown, or even navy for a total look in camaieux, a monochrome look.

Even the house of Mademoiselle has gone blue.

just as Burberry mens'wear

And for evening, what can be prettier than a softer version of black.

WALTER'S

CHEZ WALTER
There is a very surprising place in Larchmont: a Chinese Pagoda!
If that is not extraordinary enough, it sells hot dogs.
Yes, HOT DOGS.
Hot dogs are not my favorite food, not even from famous Walter's- I am going to pay for this confession- but it is a very lovely building, very graceful in its pale green patina, adorned with dragons, lanterns and a oriental curvy roof. You queue up to a window, order your preferred style of hot dog and whatever else strikes your fancy: a drink, french fries, onion rings etc. But the main dish, so to speak, is a hot dog.
I just drive by a little slower when I am on the street; I don't stop; it is still a great place even if I "eat" with my eyes only.

and for the Walter's addicts, it's....
(sorry, cell phone photo of a photo behind glass...)

au revoir.

VELVET

LE VELOURS

I LOVE VELVET.
I love everything about it: its richness, its softness, its subtle sheen. Pure heaven.
These curtains in Ina Garten's - The Barefoot Contessa- apartment in NYC are AMAZING. The burnt orange alone is to die for.
