ZEBRA

LE ZEBRE
We had a house in Africa...Sounds familiar, right? Well, we did. We had a number of houses in Africa. If I mention it, it is because we had a zebra rug in front of the living room sofa in one of our houses in Africa.  A REAL zebra rug. I LOVED it. I admit it in spite of all the probable rolling of eyes out there in the big politically correct world of blogs. (I can only assume blogland is full of political correctness). If I have ruffled some feathers, I am sorry.
One has to remember that once upon a time in Africa -and elsewhere- not that very long ago, boasting of owning and displaying elephant tusks and animal "trophies" and rugs made from the skin of wild animals was not such a sensitive subject. Species were not yet even CONSIDERED endangered. Much has changed, of course, since then. I get it.
But I still love the look of zebra. I am amazed and delighted that nature has painted those unique striped animals with such stunning patterns, so classic and familiar and yet always so modern. OK I'll stop before "they" come to take me away. But not before showing you what wonder a zebra MOTIF can do to a room. (I believe that most "zebra" rugs are wool pile or printed cow these days anyway...does that make it better? I think so. It's like zirconium: not a diamond, but if it's the LOOK you want...)
I really do love it.
in small quantity...it's true.

I have found my limit
This may be just a little too much "Africa" for me. Extraordinaire!

*editor's note: not all zebras are endangered; all are protected.
au revoir.

  5. Dear Jeanne, I also love Zebra skins, the real thing that is. I would love to own any one of the examples above.
I have studied the various and unlimited designs of zebra and painted them onto ceramic pieces. I think zebra patterns gives just the right touch to an otherwise so so design scheme.
Thanks for sharing these beautiful images with us.
