HAMMERED METAL

LE METAL MARTELE
I love hammered metal. It is a finish I find rich but not froufrou, regular and haphazard at the same time; le martelé is found in almost every culture from Africa to Europe and South America, It is a relatively easy process when executed on large pieces but becomes art when this very fine craftsmanship is applied to jewelry, of course.

Mexican bowls

a slight ethnic mood for a bathroom

an Indian bucket cache-pot

modern white metal, the shine toned down by hammering

a coarse hammered surface adds softness to a Tibetan singing bowl

A great finish for very minimal cutlery

A very basic shape becomes very sophisticated when hammered

a Moroccan inspired tray table for your modern riad

an African feel for a rich napkin ring

JEWELRY

And then there is DIVINE Zolotas from Greece who know how to finely hammer gold like no one else

  1. Such a classic finish! Hammered copper is my daughter's favorite.

beautiful post. i love the idea of hammered metal, i have a few pieces similar to the photographs you have featured scattered around the house that i've picked up in second hand stores.

i love subtle armoured embellishment on clothing or in jewellery design so extending the concept to interior design feels like second nature.
