THE CONFIDENT CHAIR

Les confidents

I was watching an interview on TV5, the French language channel we get here in NY, and noticed that the interviewer and his subject were seated at a confident something like this one, or maybe  actually this model.

This piece of furniture also called a Vis-a vis was a favorite of the 19th century. Its purpose was to encourage chatting "in confidence" as it were.
The one above was designed bu Dali  for Jean-Michel Frank the 30's designer.
I first went searching for example of this intriguing chair and found a few. Not very many.
I started thinking that as fun and graceful as a confident can be, it might be a little difficult to use or even place in a room. I looked at the library area of my living room and decided that, yes, there, in front of a window where one occupant could look out between pages of a good book or words of a private chat, and the other could take in the rest of the room if bored with the tale, was a possiblility.

I also started imagining such a seat outside on a terrace. Why not look out on the garden or face the house according to one's mood. A loveseat with choices.
Or why not place the seat in an entry hall or the corner of a library like a sculpture that one still use once in a while. Between two areas of a living room. Yes, that configuration would be perfect.

Two of them, if they fit, would be even more convenient. Oh, someone has already thought of that.

When it comes down to it, I keep thinking, why not try to place two armchairs facing in opposite directions and try the whole setup out first. That's not as final as purchasing a confident
You might also want to go over your list of confessions and that of the friends you might trust with them...

I'll end my very unscientific research with one more thing:
Do I really want to acquire a chair that needs that much thought and wondering and weighing of pros and cons?
I mean, THAT MUCH THOUGHT?
I'll stick to my coups de coeur for now...

au revoir.

I believe the correct name is confidant, not confident.
