THE SOUTH OF FRANCE: Balazuc

UN VRAI VILLAGE ARDECHOIS
BALAZUC

Balazuc cascades down a steep rocky cliff to a rocky river. You get to the village across a narrow one lane bridge- it makes for some hair raising shows- and to meet the spectacular village you must pay with a long hike up a challenging hill. It is all well worth the cost in the end.
The Ardeche is mostly rock; somber gray rock on the houses, the riverbeds, the streets; Advantage has been taken of a plentiful product.

au revoir.

Dear Jeanne-Aelia, There is something very appealing about all of this grey stone, never more so than when it is contrasted with the colour of brightly painted shutters or the green of the trees. And what a marvellous situation. As you say, well worth the climb.
