HELP! DARK WALLS

I am regularly approached for "a word" of design advice. What would YOU do in this and that case?
This is not a rare occurrence and as flattering as it is to be asked, giving advice for a space you usually have not seen is at best tricky.
Hence, this column:
I will post  general advice in answer to non site-specific questions I have been asked.
You may participate, of course.
That would be so much fun.
Just keep it relatively general, if you could.

LES MURS SOMBRES

Libby:  I have a small dark room (one window) and I would like to use it as a library/mediaroom/guest room. what do you suggest?

I suggest that you keep your dark room just that: a dark room. I suggest that you make it even MORE dark. It will be perfect for watching movies, sleeping and reading a book in a Zen environment.

Dark walls with shots of light or bright color keep the room "alive".

Dark walls with deep hued accesories and furniture make the mood more tranquil.
sorry source unknown to me

and if you are not at all shy, and in the mood for drama and mystery
Go for broke.
Go for black.
Everywhere.

Paint suggestions: Benjamin Moore
Narangansett Green HC157, Van Deusen Blue HC156,Grape Juice 2074-10, Chelsea Gray HC168,Brown Horse 2108-30

If you have a topic you may want me to analyze or any design question you would like answered, let me know at un petit commentaire below. It would be so much fun for me to put my 2 cents in.

au revoir.

Bonjour! That huge mirror and the library are exquisite. I am teaching myself French, so perhaps when I visit here I can practice. :) Have a lovely day ~ xox Alexandra

I have been wanting to paint my living room gray with white semi gloss trim for a few months now but have not had the time to collect the sample chips.
I think it is very generous of you to give out advice, especially specific paint suggestions.
    Merci,
    David

  5. Acquired Objects: I know, dark walls are a leap of faith! if you don't like what you see, its a GOOD primer and a few coats of paint...
David McGrievey: Go for it. I am sure you will find a deep gray or even a medium one you'll like. One more piece of advice: choose warm grays with no blue and not too much green if you want warmth. But the great artist that you are already knows that... Bonne Chance!!!
